Project Update
The current concept under discussion includes approximately 60 affordable apartments for older adults while preserving the church sanctuary and significant portions of the existing campus open space.
The concept presented at Early Review should be understood as a starting point for discussion rather than a final design. Building form, massing, setbacks, landscaping, buffering, parking, and circulation may all change as community input and technical review continue.

Recent Milestones
January 2026 • Concept Plan Begins
POAH engaged WJW Architects to prepare conceptual site plans and building massing studies for a potential affordable senior housing community on a portion of the COIUM campus. Initial concepts explored approximately 60 age-restricted affordable apartments while preserving church operations and campus open space.
June 2026 • Initial Concept Submitted for Village Review
The project team’s first concept plans were submitted to Village staff for preliminary review. Early concepts focused on building placement, buffering, parking, circulation, and maintaining a transition between the proposed development and surrounding homes. A long-term ground lease structure preserving church ownership of the property was also established as part of the concept.
Preliminary Staff Review Completed
Village staff began preliminary review of zoning, parking, lot coverage, building placement, floor plan information, and Planned Unit Development (PUD) considerations. This marked the beginning of detailed technical evaluation of the concept.
August 2026 • Early Review Completed
COIUM, POAH, and WJW Architects presented the Senior Housing Initiative concept to the Arlington Heights Village Board during an Early Review session. The purpose of the meeting was to gather trustee and community feedback before any formal application process. No approval vote occurred at this stage.
Public Information Initiative Launched
COIUM established a communications framework centered on a single, authoritative source of project information. The objective is to provide clear project updates, public documents, FAQs, and opportunities for community engagement while avoiding speculation and unconfirmed information.

February 22, 2024 - Project Launch
Kickoff event to announce the start of the senior housing project, introducing our vision and goals to the community.
